Our story began in 2002, when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia opened the power and water sector to private participation. It marked a pivotal shift in how essential resources could be developed, delivered, and managed for national growth.
Recognizing the opportunity to create lasting impact, Vision Invest, alongside Abunayyan Trading Company and Abdulkadir Al Muhaidib & Sons Co., partnered with the MADA Group to establish Acwa Power in 2004. What began as a bold collaboration soon grew into a mission with a clear ambition: to transform the energy and water sector, through innovation, partnership, and long-term value creation.
In 2013 the Public Investment Fund (“PIF’) acquired a 15.2% stake (first through its subsidiary Sanabil Direct Investments Company) and by 2020 PIF had become our largest shareholder with a 50% stake, signaling our strong strategic alignment with Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy goals. In 2021 we went public on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) after a highly successful offering targeting institutional and retail investors.
From these origins, Acwa (formerly known as ACWA Power) has evolved into a global leader in renewable energy, water desalination, and sustainable infrastructure. To reflect our continued evolution and global ambition, in 2025 we introduced a refreshed brand identity, reinforcing our purpose to create value and drive progress for people and the planet.
